One Dead In Wrong-Way Crash In New Madrid, Missouri
New Madrid, MO – A driver was killed on Thursday after driving the wrong direction on Interstate 55.
According to reports, Dennis J. Tittle, 67, of Marston, Missouri was driving southbound in the northbound lane of I-55 at 6:12 p.m on Thursday. Tittle’s vehicle struck 5 additional vehicles headed northbound on the interstate. A car driven by Barbara Rihmond, 52, of Gosnell, Ark.; a tour bus driven by Carlos Quinones, 46, of Durango, Mexico; a car driven by Dick Schmidt, 68, of Omaha, Neb.; a car driven by Ty Treutelaar, 56, of St. Louis; and a tractor trailer driven by Michael Pierce, 59, of Grinnell, Iowa.
Tittle, the wrong-way driver, was pronounced dead at the scene by New Madrid County Coroner, George DeLisle.
Injured Transported To 2 Missouri Hospitals
Drivers and passengers in the affected vehicles were transported to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, and Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment. All were transported by ambulance and treated for moderate injuries. There were no injuries reported from the passengers on the tour bus which had been traveling from Mexico.
